Torquay´s famous resident Dame Agatha Christie, The Queen of Crime, the world´s most published novelist takes us to some of the places that were inspirational in her life and work. We are invited to follow her footsteps along the "Agatha Christie Mile".
The Agatha Christie Mile takes us to 12 points of interest and seven unique plaques to enjoy along the way:
- The Grand Hotel - Agatha and Archie spent their honeymoon after their wedding in Bristol, 1914.
- Torquay Railway Station - In 1990, as part of Torquay´s Agatha Christie Centenary Celebrations, Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) met Miss Marple (Joan Hickson) at the station.
- Torre Abbey - The abbey is now a gallery, a museum and a historic house.
- Princess Pier - Agatha Christie used to roller-skating here.
- Princess Gardens - Agatha Christie was a frequent visitor to the gardens.
- The Pavilion - Agatha Christie went to a Wagner recital with Archie in january 1913.
- Agatha Christie Bust - Rosalind Hicks, Agatha Christie´s daughter, unveiled the Bust on 15/9/1990.
- The Strand - It is a popular meeting place. In Agatha´s day it was also a stopping point for stagecoaches and trams.
- Torquay Museum - It is Devon´s oldest museum and home to the Agatha Christie Exhibition.
- Royal Torbay Yacht Club - Frederick Miller, Agatha´s father, was a prominent member of the club.
- Beacon Cove - It was known as the Ladies´Bathing Cove, at the turn of the century.
- The Imperial Hotel - The hotel is the setting for both "Peril at End House" and "Sleeping Murder".
